The Franciscan Summer Reading Circle is a rather relaxed reading group which will meet (weather permitting) in the friars' flower garden behind St. Maximilian Kolbe Friary, next to St. Ben's.
We will read Pope Francis' 2022 apostolic letter "On the Liturgical Formation of the People of God", whose Latin title is Desiderio desideravi: "Desirously have I desired to eat this Paschal Meal with you..." (Matthew 22:15).
As a guide to the pope's letter, we will use the book Pastoral Guide to Desiderio desideravi, by Rita Ferrone (Collegeville MN, Liturgical Press 2023). It is available from Amazon, for example, for $15.50 for the paperback, $11.49 for the kindle version. I would encourage you to get hold of a copy in advance - but don't worry, I'll have lots of extra copies available for $15 each. The Franciscan summer reading circle, as always, involves wine and cheese and tea and crackers. The sessions will be held on Friday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30. The circle is laid back, so you are free to show up for one or all or any number of the evenings. Mostly I just want to encourage people to read the text.
Schedule:
Friday, July 5, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. - par. 1-9
Friday, July 19, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. - cancelled due to a funeral

Friday, August 23, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. - par. 48-65 (end)
Please note that on Friday, July 12, the parishes of Terre Haute will be hosting a pilgrimage group on their way to the Eucharistic Congress, and I want to encourage everyone to participate in that.
I hope to see eager faces in the friary garden!
Peace and all good,
~Padre Bob
