Mission:
To involve the St. Benedict Parish community in the planning and implementing of a traditional summer street festival designed to celebrate our parish and the greater Terre Haute community.

What do we do?
The St. Benedict Community Festival is a festival with food, music and activities for all ages that occurs on the grounds of
St. Benedict Catholic Church on consecutive Friday and Saturday evenings on the weekend closest to the feast of St. Benedict.
Why do we do it?
The parish festival provides the opportunity for parish members and the Terre Haute community to engage in fellowship.
Income from the festival goes to the general operating fund of the parish.
How do we do it?
A festival committee comprised of 18 activities and 30+ parish members meet regularly during the year to discuss and decide
matters about the annual festival. The 18 activities are managed as subcommittees and each is responsible for a particular
feast component. Close coordination with the parish office is necessary to secure licenses and dispense funds to purchase
goods and services for the festival.
Meeting dates-
Meetings occur on the first Monday of each month from December thru July at 7:00 p.m. in Hellmann Hall.
How many volunteers are needed?
Approximately 250 including the committee chairpersons
The volunteers work one or more two-hour shifts over the two-day period in various booths/venues. Other volunteers sell
tickets, publicize the festival, prepare food, count money, and set-up/tear down tents/booths.
What skills, aptitudes, talents, and experiences are necessary for this ministry?
Planning, organizing, and follow-through skills are necessary for this ministry.
What is the time commitment to this ministry?
Each member averages two hours per month for eight months to attend regular monthly committee and subcommittee
meetings. Members will spend 20 or fewer hours during the week of the festival.
Approximately $1,000 in start-up money is required to begin the festival with. It is repaid after the festival.
